Red Sox have postseason resiliency that Angels lack (SportingNews.com)

How did the Angels get into a 2-0 hole against the Red Sox? Actually, it's simple. Boston realizes baseball's postseason is one grinding at-bat, one pitch at a time. (original story)

I'm Coming Home, Via Chicago: Recap, Day 4 of Playoffs

Well, might as well make it an even hundred.  Los Angeles Dodgers 3, Chicago Cubs 1: The Cubs once again failed to advance as Hiroki Kuroda, James Loney (fast becoming my favourite non-Jay player not named Ichiro) and the Dodgers swept the Cubs out of the ALDS.  Russell Martin, Manny Ramirez, and Rafael Furcal also had excellent series for the Blues, who enjoyed great starting pitching from Derek Lowe, Chad Billingsley, and Kuroda as well as excellent work out of the bullpen (with the exception of Takashi Saito). Great starting pitching, shutdown bullpen work, and fantastic hitting o... (original story)

Rays' Matt Garza struggles with footing, command (AP)

The ditch at the front of the mound really didn't bother Matt Garza. What made him cringe were two leadoff walks, a three-run fourth and his inability to help Tampa Bay complete a sweep against the Chicago White Sox on Sunday in their division series. Garza and the Rays were a bit out of sorts in a 5-3 loss that forced Game 4 on Monday. (original story)

White Sox beat Rays, close playoff deficit to 2-1 (AP)

Thanks to John Danks and the White Sox, Chicago still has one team standing. For the second time in less than a week, Danks pitched a strong game to save the season as the White Sox beat Tampa Bay 5-3 Sunday and trimmed the Rays' lead in the opening-round AL playoff series to 2-1. "If Danks loses in either game he pitches, we're not here right now," manager Ozzie Guillen said. (original story)

Matt Garza Was Okay

Four walks, four strikeouts, zero homeruns, more groundballs than fly balls, and 14 swinging strikes. Unfortunately the hits he did give up were usually to the warning track. Here are his graphs: P Brady has engineering homework to do so consider this your recap thread. (original story)

Sunday a.m. things

Well, so much for that BoSox/Cubs World Series. Ken Davidoff says that Ron Washington is on the hot seat, because Nolan Ryan isn't going to tolerate much more mediocrity.  The Detroit Free Press says that the Tigers will talk to the Rangers about acquiring a shortstop and a catcher.  The F-P says that the Tigers have had interest in Joaquin Arias in the past, and of course, they need a long-term solution behind the plate, although the article quotes Jim Leyland as saying that Detroit needs an experienced catcher, which would make Gerald Laird the obvious choice.  The Rangers are...
